Chaplaincy
Our Chapel
On Wednesday 11th September 2019 Bishop Paul McAleenan came to celebrate the first Mass of our new academic year and, most importantly, to bless and open our new school chapel. It was a most wonderful occasion and one that will live long in our memory! We were also joined by three of the Sisters of the Divine Saviour, who travelled from their convent in Bristol to be with us, Mr Philip Gibbs, our previous Headteacher, Mr Peter Sweeney, Head of St Joan of Arc, members of our governing body, parishioners from our parishes of St Saviour’s and Our Lady Mother of the Saviour as well as parents. It was quite a gathering and it was quite a celebration! A selection of people from all sections of our school and wider community processed with Bishop Paul and Father Richard at the beginning of our Mass to our new chapel; situated right of the heart of our school, to bless the chapel and the tabernacle – through the miracle of modern technology the whole school was able to watch a live feed of the blessing from the school hall. Our Year 6 chaplains enjoyed taking a lead in the Mass and helping to make our guests welcome. They represented the student body of our school so well and made us very proud.
Our Chapel is such a beautiful space and it has added tremendously to the prayer life of our school.
Our Chaplaincy Team
Our KS2 Chaplaincy Team support pupils across the whole school in developing and deepening their faith. They take on responsibility for preparing the prayer focus for our school assemblies, for reading scripture and prayers and each half term plan and deliver a prayer for the whole school. During breaktimes members of the chaplaincy team can be found leading group prayer activities in our Chapel. In addition to this, the chaplaincy team take turns to engage the whole school community in prayer through their 'thought for the week' segment in our Friday newsletter.
Chaplaincy
During significant liturgical times in the year, such as Lent and Advent, the Chaplaincy team support pupils in developing their understanding of the importance of these by leading prayers in our chapel. This includes a devotion to The Rosary during October and May, reflections on The Jesse Tree during Advent and whole school acts of worship such as ‘The Walking Stations of the Cross’ in Lent.
