Attendance and Punctuality

At Divine Saviour School, we believe that every day counts. Good attendance and punctuality help children to achieve their full potential, build friendships and make the most of every learning opportunity.

Why Attendance Matters

Children who attend school regularly are more likely to:

Make good academic progress.
Develop confidence and independence.
Build strong friendships and relationships.
Feel happy, settled and included in school life.

Even a small amount of missed learning can make it harder for children to keep up with their peers.

Parents' Responsibilities

When a child is registered at school, parents and carers have a legal duty to ensure that they attend school regularly and arrive on time. This applies to all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Parents and carers can support good attendance by:

Ensuring their child attends school every day whenever possible.
Bringing their child to school on time.
Avoiding routine appointments during school hours where possible.
Informing the school promptly if their child is absent.

Reporting an Absence

If your child is unable to attend school, please contact the school office before the start of the school day and let us know the reason for their absence.

If your child is absent for more than one day, please continue to keep the school updated.

If You Need Support

We understand that there can sometimes be challenges that affect attendance.

If you have concerns about your child's attendance, please speak to us as soon as possible. We will work closely with you to understand any difficulties and identify ways to support your child and family.

Where additional support is needed, the school may seek advice and guidance from the Local Authority Attendance Team or other appropriate services.

Leave of Absence During Term Time

The Government's attendance guidance states that leave of absence during term time should only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.
